Service Project Opportunity

Are you excited for a week in lovely Iowa City but missed the sign-ups for Tuesday workshops? Want to give back to the community you’ll be visiting? Or perhaps you just want to see a part of Iowa City you might not otherwise? Come join us at a service project assisting the Bur Oak Land Trust, an organization that “provides places where everyone has the opportunity to learn about and enjoy native habitats and where diverse flora and fauna have a chance to persist.”

We’ll make an afternoon of it by working on habitat restoration and maintenance in nearby Pappy Dickens Preserve or Shimek Ravine, which should give us all a chance to enjoy some outside time before a busy conference. All tools, gloves, and instruction will be provided, but you will want to wear layers and long pants.

We will leave from the Sheraton’s lobby at 12:45pm, to meet at the volunteer location by 1pm. We return to the hotel at 4pm, but those hoping to attend the RBMS Orientation are welcome to leave a bit earlier in order to participate in both activities. We can have up to twenty volunteers, and you can sign up here.
