Live Music!

By Patricia Nugent, Member of the Local Arrangements Committee

No visit to New Orleans would be complete without seeing some live, local music!

Close to RBMS headquarters at the Astor Crowne Plaza, you will find Preservation Hall with multiple nightly performances in their historic venue. Truly a must for any music lover.

Other nearby music venues include One Eyed Jack’s and 3 Keys where New Orleans Blues legend Walter Wolfman Washington will be playing for free on June 21st at 9:00pm.

Adjacent to the French Quarter, in the Faubourg Marigny, lies Frenchman Street. Multiple music venues and bars crowd the few blocks. Keep in mind that most clubs will require a cover or a minimum drink purchase. If standing room only raucousness isn’t what you are looking for, you may enjoy taking a seat in the intimate Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. You can always just wander Frenchman and soak up the atmosphere (and the sounds) on the street.

One last tip: always have your radio tuned to legendary community radio station WWOZ (90.7 FM) for all manner of New Orleans music, and to take advantage of their daily music listings to help you create your own New Orleans musical adventure.

See you soon!
