Biography

Janet Weaver is the Assistant Curator of the Iowa Women’s Archives (IWA) at the University of Iowa Libraries. Since the 1970s, Weaver has been involved in oral history projects to preserve the history of those who are under-represented in traditional archives and whose contributions have been marginalized by dominant historical narratives. At IWA, Weaver works not only to expand primary sources relating to Latinas, their families, and organizations in Iowa, but also to bring this history to light as the author of two articles on Mexican American activism in eastern Iowa and the coordinator for “Migration is Beautiful”, a digital humanities project on Mexican immigration. Weaver also is a PhD candidate in History at Iowa, where she is completing a dissertation on Iowa button workers during the Progressive Era.
