Ana M. Martínez Alemán
Dr. Ana M. Martínez Alemán is Associate Dean for Faculty and Professor of the Educational Leadership & Higher Education Department at Boston College, Lynch School of Education. Her recent books include Critical Approaches to the Study of Higher Education (2015), and Accountability, Pragmatic Aims, and the American University (2011) She is coauthor of Online Social Networking on Campus: Understanding What Matters in Student Culture, co-editor of Women in Higher Education: An Encyclopedia. Her scholarship appears in the Journal of Higher Education, Teachers College Record, Educational Theory, The Teacher Educator, Feminist Interpretations of John Dewey, Educational Researcher, and the Review of Higher Education.
Martínez Alemán has held various leadership positions in the American Educational Researchers Association (AERA), the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and The New England Philosophy of Education Society (NEPES). Currently, Martínez Alemán serves as Vice-President of AERA’s Division J Postsecondary Education. Her leadership appointments and elected positions include serving on AERA’s Social Justice Advisory Committee, Chair of Committee on the Role and Status of Women in Educational Research and Development and as Affirmative Action Officer for Division J. She was appointed to the Committee on Opportunities in Science of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a committee that seeks to improve the participation of women, ethnic and racial minorities and persons with disabilities in the sciences and engineering.
