Workshop: Cataloging Rare Materials Using RDF: The Rare Materials Ontology Extension (Sold Out Ticketed Event)

Awareness of linked data is becoming increasingly important for scholarship and research, not just for catalogers, but for public service and user-experience librarians too. In this workshop, members of the Rare Materials Ontology group will provide a hands-on opportunity to experiment with the Rare Materials Ontology Extension, a research-focused collaborative development between the Bibliographic Standards Committee and the Andrew W. Mellon funded Linked Data for Production. The Rare Materials Ontology Extension extends BIBFRAME to allow for the description of rare materials.
Workshop leaders will provide an overview of data modeling and linked data, explain modeling in the Rare Materials Ontology Extension and facilitate a hands-on cataloging exercise.
