{"id":729,"date":"2017-04-06T10:00:35","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T10:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/?p=729"},"modified":"2017-04-04T19:36:07","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T19:36:07","slug":"participatory-sessions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/participatory-sessions\/","title":{"rendered":"Participatory Sessions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What are participatory sessions?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To put it simply, participatory sessions are sessions that are focused on audience involvement around a specific topic.\u00a0 The speed-dating of workshop types, participatory sessions allow attendees to interact with session leaders to shape and lead a 90 minute conversation, and in some cases hands-on activities.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s roster of participatory sessions is extremely rich and varied, offering a little something for everyone!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Tuesday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To kick off your RBMS conference adventure you can work with fellow RBMSers and the Bur Oak Land Trust on an <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/service-project-habitat-restoration-maintenance-with-bur-oak-land-trust\/\">afternoon of habitat restoration and maintenance<\/a> (please note sign up is required).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Wednesday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>There will be sessions on <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-2\/\">outreach through storytelling<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-3\/\">special collections security<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-5\/\">instruction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Thursday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Actively learn about <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-7\/\">integrating primary sources into K-12 instruction<\/a> in the morning, have a lunch-time discussion about <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/lunch-participatory-session-tbd\/\">diversity recruitment and representation in Special Collections<\/a> led by IMLS-RBS Fellowship for Early-Career Librarians recipients, and then learn some strategies for <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-9\/\">success and self-care<\/a> applicable to all levels and at any point of your career in special collections.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Friday<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Rest up because on we&#8217;re topping off the week with\u00a0a participatory session on how to <a href=\"http:\/\/conference.rbms.info\/2017\/session\/breakout-session-tbd-11\/\">advocate for special collections through instruction and outreach<\/a>!<br \/>\nOn behalf of the participatory subcommittee of the 2017 RBMS Conference Planning Committee, we hope you find these sessions as energizing, innovative, and interactive as we did during the selection process!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Elizabeth Call<br \/>\nPublic Services Librarian<br \/>\nBurke Library<br \/>\nColumbia University<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What are participatory sessions?
